He is not some person, but a person that is not like any other like Batman is unlike any other.īut the joker in this film just seems to imply that he is a natural by-product of the way society is structured coupled with his mental issues. His craziness COMES from somewhere that we know, and it marks him out as extraordinary. We do know he is a principled anarchist, an ideological shadow of the Batman. Nolan’s joker works because we really don’t know who he is, where he comes from. He is basically a natural by-product of societal neglect and mental illness.Ĭontrast that to the Nolan joker. The problem is that the joker in this movie is not extraordinary. ![]() Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good movie and it’s enjoyable, but I hated it because it’s not a joke movie.Īs I see it, the joker is extraordinary as much as Batman is extraordinary. This may be an unpopular opinion but I hated the Joker.
